The Board is requested to welcome Durham County EMS System’s new Medical Director. Dr. Anjni Joiner was appointed as the Medical Director on September 1, 2018 following the departure of Dr. Susan Schreffler, who resigned from Duke to accept a position at Baylor University in Texas.
Dr. Joiner completed her training in Emergency Medicine at Duke University after attending medical school at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine. During her time as a student at Duke, Dr. Joiner was no stranger to Durham County EMS, completing numerous ride-alongs and training sessions with the agency. After residency, she then went on to complete a fellowship in Prehospital and Disaster Medicine/Emergency Medical Services at Emory University. While living in Atlanta, she served as an Associate Medical Director for Air Life Georgia and Medical Director for Fulton County Fire.
She also holds a Masters in Public Health with a concentration in Global Epidemiology from the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University. Dr. Joiner currently serves as an assistant professor in the Division of Emergency Medicine at Duke University with a research focus on global health and prehospital system/emergency care development and prehospital sepsis.
