The Board is requested to approve a resolution recognizing the extraordinary life and accomplishments of Dr. Brenda Estelle Armstrong, a noted pediatric cardiologist who made her transition on October 7, 2018. She will be remembered for the tremendous impact she made in Durham and beyond, and for the outstanding work she performed during her 20-year tenure at Duke University School of Medicine.
Dr. Armstrong was the second Black woman to become a board-certified Pediatric Cardiologist in the United States. “Coach Doc” as she was affectionately called was the team physician and coach for the Durham Striders Track Club and worked tirelessly to educate youth on the importance of education, health and an active lifestyle.
