Agenda Text
The Board is requested to issue a resolution celebrating Black History Month for February 2024 in Durham County. The purpose of the resolution is to acknowledge and honor Black History Month in Durham County, bringing awareness and celebration to the experiences and contributions of the African American community in Durham County. Black History Month was conceived by the historian Carter G. Woodson and members of his Association for the Study of Negro Life and History (now the Association for the Study of African American Life and History) in 1926. Black History month started off as Negro History Week and expanded to Black History Month in 1976 and provides the opportunity to honor the rich contributions, achievements, and resilience of the Black Community throughout history. We are committed to fostering a culture of inclusivity, diversity, and understanding within Durham County. Together, we strive to acknowledge, learn from, and appreciate the diverse narratives that shape our collective history.
