The Board is requested to proclaim March 24 - March 31, 2024, as Catherine Ferrell Gardening Week in Durham County, NC.
To honor 111-year-old Catherine Ferrell, North Carolina’s and Durham’s oldest resident and ornamental gardener, who as a member of the Better Homes and Garden Club and the North Carlina Federation of Garden Clubs is an advocate of residential and community beautifications and perpetuating practical gardening skills to various demographics across the Durham residential landscape.
This proclamation will be presented to Mrs. Catherine Ferrell or a family member on March 30, 2024, at a symposium entitled: The African American Legacy in Gardening and Horticulture at the Hayti Heritage Center.
