Date of BOCC Meeting:  August 12, 2024

Request for Board Action:

Agenda Text

The Board is requested to approve several statewide legislative items that have been prepared to be submitted to the 2025 NCACC Legislative Goals Process. During the work session, staff shared several goals received by staff. During the discussion the Board members requested the addition of various other goals that have now been included in the package. The North Carolina Association of County Commissioners works through a rigorous process to develop critical legislative proposals to advocate for during the upcoming General Assembly term.

Legislative goal proposals may include changes to statutes or requests for funding and should have a 100-county impact. All items submitted must be approved by the Board and forwarded to NCACC via their portal. The organization has set August 23, 2024, as the deadline to receive any proposals. Following a period of vetting with the various committees and the Board of Directors, the membership will adopt final goals at the NCACC Legislative Goals Conference later this year.

Alignment with Strategic Plan: This item aligns with all of Durham County’s Strategic Goals.

Resource Persons:  Deborah Craig-Ray, Chief Communications Officer; Rodney Jenkins, Durham County Public Health Director; Tobin Freid, Sustainability Manager
