Request for Board Action:
Agenda Text
The Board is requested to approve an easement agreement with Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC for overhead and underground electrical utilities required to serve the Durham County Sheriff's Training Facility located at 100 Electra Road. The Sheriff's Training Facility is preparing for planned range upgrades and the construction of a new 10,000sf building to facilitate onsite classrooms, restroom facilities, and training support spaces.

The current location of the overhead electrical line obstructs the positioning of a planned rifle training platform that is part of the range upgrades. The existing easement will be modified to include a 230' segment for overhead and underground electrical service extending toward the site of the new building and parking lot (see attached maps for reference).

The parcel affected by the relocation of the electrical lines is owned by the County and the easement itself will traverse through a partially wooded area to serve a future transformer that is to be installed during the construction of the new 10,000sf building.

The County Attorney's Office has reviewed and approved the easement agreement and proposed right of way which are attached for the Board's reference.

Alignment with Strategic Plan: This item supports Goal 5: Accountable, Efficient and Visionary Government by facilitating needed infrastructure management to support expansion of the Sheriff's Training Facility.

Resource Persons: Joel T. Jones, Project Manager, E&ES; Jim Faress, Senior Project Manager, E&ES; Peri Manns, Deputy Director, E&ES; Jay Gibson, Director, E&ES.
