The Board is requested to adopt a Resolution to delegate limited authority to sign an Option to Purchase and Contract for real property. This authority is limited to the Durham County Senior Real Estate Officer for transactions on property to be used for transitional housing by the Durham County Justice Services Department.
The Justice Services Department is seeking real property to provide temporary housing to up to six (6) individuals in need of their services who do not have alternate housing options. Due to the rapid turnover of available property in the Durham real estate market, the County's Senior Real Estate Officer may need to execute a Purchase and Sale Agreement and pay the associated due diligence fee in a timely manner, which would likely be before the next scheduled meeting of the Board of Commissioners. This Resolution allows the signing of such an agreement in close coordination with the County Manager, and notification to the Commissioners. The actual purchase of the contracted real property will still be brought to the Board for its approval as required by state statute.
