Agenda Text
The Board is requested to approve Budget Ordinance Amendment No. 25BCC083 recognizing $124,106 from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) for the 2024 State Criminal Alien Assistance Program (SCAAP) and allocate these funds to the Durham County Sheriff's Office.
SCAAP, administered by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), provides federal payments to states and localities that incurred salary costs for incarcerating undocumented noncitizens who have at least one felony or two misdemeanor convictions for violations of state or local law and who are incarcerated for at least four consecutive days during the reporting period. The Bureau of Justice Assistance has announced that Durham County is eligible for the 2024 SCAAP award in the amount of $124,106.
In accordance with grant guidelines, the Durham County Sheriff's Office will purchase equipment for disaster preparedness and continuity of operations inside the Detention Center, support training and education for detention officers, and fund detention officer recruitment initiatives. The funds will also cover Southern Resource Advisors, LLC's costs to compile Detention Center population data.
