The Board is requested to approve a resolution for Durham County, North Carolina, supporting the America 250 NC committee for the United States semi-quincentennial (AMERICA250NC).
Roy Cooper, former Governor of North Carolina created AMERICA250NC to plan, encourage, develop, and coordinate the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the United States. The heart of the America 250 NC commemoration lies within the county committees. These committees are dedicated to planning and organizing events, projects, and initiatives at the county level. They serve as the local conduit to statewide commemorative programming, amplifying the rich history of our state and local communities. They also seek to foster participation of a wide variety of local organizations and groups to participate in creating America 250 NC events and resources.
Alignment with Strategic Plan: This item aligns with Durham County’s Empowered Community Focus - Empowering the community to enhance their opportunities to thrive. Objective (EC 1), Initiative (a) Strengthen partnerships with diverse internal and external agencies and service providers.
