The Board is requested to approve a contract with Duke University Health System, Inc. for Emergency Medical Director services for the Office of Emergency Services in the amount of $195,426 annually for Fiscal Year 2025 with a one-year renewal term and to authorize the County Manager to sign and execute the contract, including subsequent renewals, extensions, or amendments associated with this contract as necessary to continue services as required.

 

Each EMS system in North Carolina is required to have a medical director under Section 10A NCAC 13P .0201(a)(15), with responsibilities outlined in Section 10A NCAC 13P .0400. Duke University Health System has partnered with Durham County EMS since 1976 and provided medical direction for more than 35 years. The EMS Medical Directors support Durham County EMS system and our partners including Durham County Sheriffs Office, Durham Fire Department, Durham Police Department, Durham Emergency Communications Center, Bahama Fire Department, Eno Fire Department, Lebanon Fire Department, Moriah Fire Department, New Hope Fire Department, and Redwood Fire Department by annually reviewing patient care protocols, teaching in the EMS Recruit Academy and continuing education programs, conducting clinical clearance assessments for new providers, and performing quality assurance reviews to ensure the highest standards of patient care.
