Request for Board Action:

Agenda Text

The Board is requested to approve Capital Project Amendment No. 25CPA010, transferring $3,500,000 in 2022 General Obligation bond funding from the DTCC Allied Health Sciences Building project (5920CC020) to a new Utility Lines Burial project (5920CC024).

On November 8, 2022, Durham County voters approved a General Obligation Bond referendum totaling $550 million, of which $112.5 million was allotted for several Durham Technical Community College related capital projects. Two of those projects are described below.

Durham Tech is requesting the transfer of $3.5 million of GO bond funds already authorized for the Health Science Building project to be moved to a related project for the burial of the utility lines along Lawson Street that run through the college’s main campus. The burial of these utility lines will help mitigate weather related power outages and will also improve the appearance of the main campus along Lawson Street. This project will allow for better staff and student movement along Lawson Street by allowing for wider sidewalks and the implementation of traffic calming measures.

Moving funding from the Allied Health Sciences Building project will allow the Utility Line Burial project to proceed in a timely manner but will not affect overall funding for the building project.
