1. Veteran Services Office to Offer Limited Services from September 21 - 25 - Residents seeking assistance from Durham County Department of Veteran Services Office from Monday, September 21 through Friday, September 25, 2026, should note that limited services will be available as staff will be attending their annual accreditation training. The office will resume full service on Monday, September 28. Customers can still reach Veteran Services by calling 919-560-8387, emailing veteranservices@dconc.gov <mailto:veteranservices@dconc.gov>, or visiting their office at 201 N. Roxboro Street, Durham, NC 27701.
2. Get Help with Your Child with RYSE - The Resources for Youth Success & Empowerment (RYSE) Assessment Center supports Durham families with youth ages 10 to 17 through fast screenings and referrals. RYSE connects youth with trusted tutoring, mentoring, mental health, workforce programs and more. Walk-ins welcome. Visit their office at 2432 Broad Street or call today. 3. Reimagining Durham County Memorial Stadium - Durham Next, in partnership with Durham County Government and the Durham Sports Commission, is conducting a feasibility study for Durham County Memorial Stadium. The stadium has long been a hub for athletics, events, and community gatherings, and this study will explore potential upgrades, expansion, or rebuilding to better serve Durham and support larger events. Share your vision for the stadium’s future through this anonymous 10-15-minute survey. Whether or not you’ve used the stadium, your input matters. 4. Need help with your property taxes? - The Durham County Department of Social Services offers the Low-Income Homeowners Relief (LIHR) Program for eligible Durham residents. The program provides assistance on current property taxes for eligible homeowners. To qualify, you must own your property, it must have served as your primary residence for at least the past five years, and your income must be less than or equal to 80% of the Area Median Income. 5. Join Welcome Baby for the 3rd Annual Sock Tember Sock Drive - All September, Welcome Baby is collecting new children’s socks (sizes Newborn-Kids 9) with a goal of 6,000 pairs. Donations support families through Welcome Baby’s free weekly Giving Closet. Drop-off locations include:
• Durham County Libraries (Main, East, North, Southwest, South)
• YMCA (Downtown, Lakewood, Hope Valley Farm)
• Book Harvest
• Durham Cooperative Extension
