The Board is requested to approve a resolution honoring the life and legacy of Dr. E. Lavonia Allison who made her transition on January 7, 2025. Funeral services for Dr. Allison were held on January 25th, and the resolution was read at that time and shared with the family.
Dr. E. Lavonia Allison was a stalwart activist and champion for those without an effective voice. For generations she rallied for improved education, political access, and justice for all. She chaired The Durham Committee on the Affairs of Black People for many years, and was a well-known, highly respected leader across our state and nation. She was on a first name basis with some of the most powerful politicians across the spectrum and was always known and respected for her tenacity. On behalf of Durham County and its residents, we extend our sincere condolences to Dr. Allison’s entire family and her extensive network of friends.
