The Board is requested to approve Budget Ordinance Amendment No. 25BCC013 recognizing $246,000 in grant funding from the Institute for Intergovernmental Research (IIR) through the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Justice Programs (OJP) for the Initiative to Build Bridges to Increase Access to Opioid Use Disorder Treatment Options in the Nation's Jails Project for the Durham County Sheriff's Office. The Board is also requested to authorize the County Manager to sign the agreement.

This funding opportunity will support projects to increase access to Medicated Assisted Treatment (MAT) in jails and the capacity of local communities to collaborate across public safety, behavioral health, and public health to continue care in the community. The Sheriff's Office was selected as a Building Bridges site in February of 2020. These funds will expand the Sheriff's Medication Assisted Restorative and Treatment Program (SMART) at the Detention Center.
