1. Free Summer Meals for Youth - Durham County youth can get free meals at schools and community sites throughout Durham during the summer months through the SUN Meals Program. The program, from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, provides nutritious breakfasts, lunches, and snacks for anyone 18 and under now through July 31. No application, ID, registration, or proof of income is required. Dates and times of operation vary by site. Find a summer meal location near you here: www.dpsnc.net/o/dps/page/summer-meals-program
2. Summit on Saving Lives - For the past six months, Durham County Government has partnered with the City of Durham to better understand the causes of violence in our community and identify the strategies that make an impact. Now, we're bringing that work to the community at the Summit on Saving Lives on Wednesday, June 24, from 8:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m., a hybrid event to share what we have learned and turn that learning into action. Together with residents, local leaders, and national experts, we will examine local data, weigh the evidence, and align on a focused set of strategies tailored to Durham's unique challenges and strengths. Registration for in person seating has filled, however; you can watch the entire summit on the City of Durham's YouTube channel here: https://www.youtube.com/@CityofDurhamNC/stream. Find more information on the summit here: https://www.durhamnc.gov/5556.
3. Fatherhood Initiative - Durham County Department of Social Services is developing a Fatherhood Program to support fathers involved with Durham County DSS within the Children and Family Services Division. You are invited to help shape services that reflect the needs and experiences of fathers while strengthening their roles as parents, providers, and community members.
