Request for Board Action:

Agenda Text

The Board is requested to proclaim April 23- 27, 2018 as “Durham Reentry Week.”

In recent years, the criminal justice community nationwide has come together each April to shine a light on the work of community and faith based groups to support individuals returning home from prison. Although the federal government has not made a designation for 2018, the Criminal Justice Resource Center and the Local Reentry Council in collaboration with the Religious Coalition for A Non-Violent Durham (RCND), will work to recognize April 23-27, 2018 as Reentry Week in Durham.

Involved agencies will host events designed to highlight services and supports for justice involved individuals in the Durham community. Durham County, the City of Durham, RCND and other agencies are working to create a seamless system of reentry for citizens transitioning from correctional supervision.

Alignment with Strategic Plan: This item aligns with Strategic Goal 3: Safe Community
