The Board is requested to approve the renewal of the Hollow Rock Nature Park Interlocal Agreement with Orange County and the Town of Chapel Hill and to approve the Hollow Rock Nature Park Management Plan with Orange County. Hollow Rock Nature Park is an 82-acre park along the Durham/Orange County line at Pickett and Erwin Roads in west central Durham County. Durham and Orange County acquired the land in 2006 with a combination of local funds, citizen donations, land trust support, and a grant from the State's Clean Water Management Trust Fund. The park was opened to the public in 2016 and is operated by both Durham County and Orange County. Durham County manages and maintains the area east of Pickett Road. Orange County manages the area, including the parking lot and historic Hollow Rock Store, west of Pickett Road. This interlocal agreement is an update and renewal of the original 2006 agreement that outlines and describes the park's current amenities, appropriate management strategies, and operational responsibilities. It is anticipated that the Orange County Board of Commissioners will adopt this updated Interlocal Agreement and Management Plan at their meeting on October 15th, 2024. This interlocal agreement has a 10-year term.
