The Board is requested to recognize Tyler Fitts as Durham County’s new Chief Fire Marshal in the Office of Emergency Services.
Tyler B. Fitts brings nearly two decades of fire suppression, education, and code enforcement experience in local government, along with more than eight years of dedicated service as a Durham County employee. Raised in Durham County and a proud graduate of C.E. Jordan High School, Tyler’s lifelong connection to the community anchors his commitment to public safety. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Fire and Safety Engineering Technology with a concentration in Fire Administration from Eastern Kentucky University, providing a strong technical and administrative foundation for his leadership in fire prevention, code enforcement, and community risk reduction. He is also a graduate of the Durham County Leadership Academy. Throughout his career, Tyler has strengthened safety standards through effective collaboration, public education, and a focus on operational excellence - reflecting his enduring dedication to protecting the residents of his hometown.
