Welcoming Week, September 13-22, 2024, is a national movement organized by Welcoming America that helps communities become more welcoming to newcomers, immigrants, and refugees. Welcoming Week celebrations bring together neighbors of all backgrounds to build strong communities and affirm the importance of welcoming and inclusive places in achieving collective prosperity.
Durham County and the City of Durham collaborate together, along with other community partners, on this annual celebration. This year’s theme, We’re All In, celebrates the diversity of the Durham community, bringing together all Durham residents, including immigrants and refugees. Welcoming Week events include an International Soccer Tournament on September 14 include a Career and Resource Fair on September 17. Alignment with Strategic Plan: The Welcoming Week proclamation aligns with the County focus areas of Empowered Community, Healthy and Inclusive Community, and Safe & Resilient Community.

County Manager’s Recommendation: The County Manager recommends that the Board proclaim September 13-22, 2024, as Welcoming Week.
