The Board is requested to approve Budget Ordinance Amendment No. 27BCC011 appropriating $150,000 in General Fund Fund Balance for a Library Master Facilities Plan.
Durham County Engineering recommends that the Library conduct a study of facility needs which would then be incorporated into the County’s Master Facilities Plan. Conducting a separate study gives the Library an opportunity to focus on the direction of the library system based on population growth, current trends and the vision for service delivery. Engineering estimates that hiring a consultant to conduct the study would cost $150,000.
Alignment with Strategic Plan: This project addresses SI1 - Sustainable Infrastructure 1: Plan for long-term use of County land, facilities, and equipment. It helps address initiatives 1a, 1 b and 1c by assessing our current libraries, and creating a plan for library buildings and spaces moving forward.

County Manager’s Recommendation: The County Manager recommends that the Board approves Budget Ordinance Amendment No. 27BCC011 Appropriating $150,000 in General Fund Fund Balance for a Library Master Facilities Plan.
