1. Redwood Convenience Site Closed for Renovation - The Redwood Convenience Site at 100 Electra Road closed on April 1 for a year-long renovation project. During the closure, residents in unincorporated Durham County are encouraged to visit one of the County's two other convenience sites: Parkwood Convenience Site (5928 Highway 55) and Northern Convenience Site (11894 N. 2. Burn Ban Continues in Durham - A countywide burn ban went into effect in Durham County on March 23, 2026. Due to ongoing dry conditions and increased fire danger, the ban issued by the Durham County Office of Emergency Services, Fire Marshal Division, remains in effect until further notice. The N.C. Forest Service has also issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective March 28. Durham County has the authority to issue the ban within 100 feet of a structure while the NC Forest Service can issue a ban from 100 feet outward. The two bans combined prohibit open and recreational burning anywhere in the county.
