The Board is requested to adopt the attached resolution declaring May 25, 2026, as Memorial Day in Durham County in remembrance of the county’s 376 known soldiers, sailors, Marines, and airmen who died at war.
Alignment with Strategic Plan: This resolution aligns with the strategic focus area of “Healthy & Inclusive Community” by honoring the ultimate sacrifice made by these 376 known individuals in defense of our country’s democratic freedoms and encouraging residents to participate in Memorial Day observances.
Resource Persons: Jonathan T. Crooms, Durham County Veteran Services Supervisor.
County Manager’s Recommendation: The County Manager recommends that the Board adopt the attached resolution proclaiming May 25, 2026, as Memorial Day in Durham County.
