The Board is requested to approve Budget Ordinance Amendment No. 27BCC022 recognizing $171,408 from the 2025 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG) to the Durham County Sheriff's Office and to authorize the County Manager to execute the interlocal agreement between the City of Durham and the County of Durham for these funds. This award will be shared in a 50/50 split between the Durham County Sheriff’s Office and the Durham Police Department.
The Durham County Sheriff’s Office will use these funds to obtain a virtual reality training system for the Sheriff’s Office Training facility. The Durham Police Department will use funds to modernize, update, and expand the capabilities of its Training and Forensic Services Divisions. The full amount is being recognized in the County, and the City’s expense will be seen as an expenditure in the County’s system. The full revenue will also be budgeted and collected in the County’s system as a reimbursement for expenditures.
