The Board is requested to review the initial development of statewide items for the 2027 NCACC Legislative Goals process. Each biennium, counties are encouraged to submit proposed legislative items for consideration as the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners works through a rigorous process to develop critical legislative proposals to advocate for during the upcoming General Assembly term. Legislative goal proposals may include changes to statutes or requests for funding and should have a 100-county impact. Staff have received a few proposals from County Departments which are included in this packet. During this discussion, the Board is also asked to share any other proposed items to include so that staff may prepare them for final review and approval at the next regular meeting.
All items submitted must be approved by the Board and forwarded to NCACC via their portal. The organization has set August 14th as the deadline for receiving items. Following a period of vetting with the various committees and the NCACC Board of Directors, the membership will adopt final goals at the NCACC Legislative Goals Conference later this year.
Goals must be submitted by: Adopted resolutions from full boards; A letter from board chairs on behalf of the full boards; or A letter from the resident of an affiliate and/or related county organization.
