The Board is requested to formally proclaim the week of December 10th as Champions in Transportation Week and present the 2018 "Champions in Transportation" Awards.

This year will mark the fourth consecutive year where Durham County ACCESS in conjunction with the Transportation Advisory Board has held this event. This award initiative in conjunction with the "Champions in Transportation" Proclamation serves to highlight customers and partners. The awards recognize customers that rely daily on the vital services of Durham County ACCESS to get to work and medical appointments. Additionally, key partners and other officials that have been instrumental in working with Durham County ACCESS are also acknowledged for their contributions.

The awards recognize some of the true unsung champions that contribute to the success of the ACCESS program.

The 2018 "Champions in Transportation" award categories and recipients are as follows:
* Passenger of the Year - LeRoy Farrington (Rural General Public-Work Trip)
* Senior Citizen of the Year - Mary Cropper (Senior Center Activities)
* Exceptional Customer Service of the Year - Thandiwe (Tiny) Meek, First Transit)
* Champion of Life Award - Randolph Lynch (First Transit)

Alignment With Strategic Plan: This item aligns with Goal 1: Community and Family Prosperity and Enrichment and Goal 2 - Health and Well-being for All. Through this program the community is made aware of the Durham County ACCESS services. In addition, it provides an opportunity to formally recognizes Durham County residents for utilizing the transportation program and awards exceptional riders for their efforts to utilize the demand response service to enhance their quality of life.
