1. Women Veterans Recognition Day Celebration - Durham County Veteran Services invites the community to its annual Women Veterans Recognition Day Celebration at 11 a.m., on Friday, June 12, 2026. The event, honoring the service and contributions of women who have served in the United States Armed Forces, will be held in the second-floor conference rooms of the Durham County Human Services Building at 414 E. Main Street. The program will feature guest speaker retired U.S. Army Chief Warrant Officer 5 Traci Goodwin. Attendees will also have opportunities to network with fellow veterans and connect with local vendors offering information about community resources and support services. 2. Get Ready to Unearth a Story This Summer! - Summer is just around the corner, and so is Durham County Library's annual Summer Reading Program. This year's theme, "Unearth a Story", invites readers of all ages to explore dinosaurs, and archaeology through a variety of free programs and special events hosted at all seven Durham County Library locations. From June 15 through August 8, residents can stop by any library location to pick up a paper reading log. Completed logs may be returned through August 15 for a chance to be entered into raffles for a grand prize.
