Agenda Text
The Board is requested to approve a resolution recognizing Dr. Virginia Williams for her courage and lifelong commitment to social justice. Dr. Williams will be honored with the International Civil Rights Center & Museum’s 2026 ‘Sit-In Participant Award’ at its Annual Gala on July 18, 2026. This award recognizes the brave individuals who took part in sit-in protests that confronted African American exclusion and racial discrimination.
At a young age, Dr. Williams participated in a peaceful sit-in at the Royal Ice Cream Parlor as one of the ‘Royal Seven.’ This pivotal act of direct action occurred nearly three years prior to Greensboro Woolworth’s lunch counter protest. Dr. Williams continues to devote her efforts to inspiring future generations to stand against social injustice.
