Request for Board Action:
Agenda Text
The Board is requested to approve Capital Project Amendment No. 25CPA009, appropriating $3,500,000 in 2022 General Obligation bond funding for two new Durham Technical Community College (DTCC) capital projects; $3,200,000 will be appropriated for a new DTCC Land Purchase project (59205300CC022) and $300,000 will be appropriated for a new DTCC Campus Police Office renovation project (59205300CC023).

On November 8, 2022, Durham County voters approved a General Obligation Bond referendum totaling $550 million, of which $112.5 million was allotted for several Durham Technical Community College related capital projects. Two of those projects are described below.

$3.2 million in GO Bond funding will allow the college to fill in the remaining land in the center of campus for further development.

Due to the demolition of Building 8 on Durham's Main Campus, which currently houses the Campus Police Offices, these offices will need to be moved. The demolition of Building 8 is beginning done in order to provide space for the new Life Science and Health Science Building.

The original plan for the Health Science Building was to house the Campus Police Offices on the first floor of the Health Science Building. After the initial design of the building, it was determined that there was not enough space to house all the Health Science Programs. By moving the Campus Police Offices to 807 Bacon Street, we would be adding an additional 15,000 square feet for instructional purposes in the Health Science Building.
