The Board is requested to adopt the attached resolution proclaiming June 12, 2026, as Women Veterans Day in Durham County in honor of women who have served in the United States Armed Forces.

 

 

Alignment With Strategic Plan: This request aligns with Strategic Plan Goal, Health and Well-being for All. This resolution recognizes and expresses gratitude for women veterans whose contributions to the national security of our country have historically been invisible and underappreciated. Furthermore, this resolution will be read during Durham County Veteran Services’ Women Veterans Recognition Program on June 12, 2026, an event that will honor Durham County’s women veterans and connect them to resources and services.

 

Resource Persons: Hellen W. Juarez-Ruiz, Durham County Veterans Service Officer; Jonathan T. Crooms, Durham County Veteran Services Supervisor.

 

County Manager’s RecommendationThe County Manager recommends that the Board adopt the resolution proclaiming June 12, 2026, as Women Veterans Day in Durham County.
