1. 2018-19 Durham County open Space Matching Grant Cycle now Open! The Durham County Open Space Matching Grant Program has opened the 2018-19 cycle for new applicants. This grant allows local non-profits to apply for recreation or open space-based grants at a 50-50 match. More information, guidelines, and application can be found on the Durham County Website below or on the Durham County Open Space Division Facebook page. Grant closes November 14, 2018! 2. Register of Deeds Announces Thank A Vet Program Kickoff: Upon release from the United States Armed Forces, it is highly recommended that veterans record their discharge papers in case originals are damaged or lost. The Register of Deeds Office is responsible for recording military discharge documents (DD-214's) for veterans. The Durham County Register of Deeds Office will kick off their campaign encouraging all veterans to record their military discharge documents on Thursday, November 15, 2018, from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Thank-A-Vet card holders can begin to use their card right away by presenting it at a participating business in Durham. The participating business list is located on the County Register of Deeds Office webpage at www.dconc.gov/rod <http://www.dconc.gov/rod>.

3. Duke Game Days: The library is pleased to partner with Duke Athletics for Library Game Days! Help us represent Durham County Library at the athletic events listed below. Show your Durham County Library card to get in FREE! Parking is also free. Only ONE person is admitted to the game for free per library card. If you come in a group, everyone needs their own Durham County Library card to get into the game free of charge. Need a Durham County Library card or a replacement card to get in free to those events? Visit your nearest library to get a new one!

4. Third Annual John W. Hatch FaithHealth Lecture: November 27, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. - 3::00 p.m. at Shaw University - Thomas J. Boyd Chapel, Raleigh. The Division of FaithHealth Ministries at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and Shaw University Divinity School invite you to the Third Annual John W. Hatch FaithHealth Lecture Series. The lecture series will engage faith and health leaders in dynamic and thought-provoking dialogue reflective of the strength of faithhealth intersections in improving population health and building stronger communities.

5. Feedback on Light Rail Project Sought: A special note from GoTriangle to community leaders and constituents. The community weighed in, and we listened. Orange and Durham counties’ 17.7-mile light-rail project officially entered the federal government’s Engineering phase in July 2017, and as engineering has progressed, some beneficial refinements to the initial plans have been identified.

Written comments on the Supplemental Environmental Assessment will be accepted until November 30, 2018. As Durham, Orange and Wake counties go forward with community investments in transit, GoTriangle would like to invite you and your constituents to participate in an upcoming open house to review proposed refinements to the design of the light-rail and provide written comment on the Supplemental Environmental Assessment.

7. MBK DURHAM SUIT DRIVE - Donate Confidence! When you donate a suit, you’re not just giving someone a piece of clothing, you’re giving someone a chance to look in the mirror and feel good. That’s a big deal because when you feel good you make things happen.
Accepting donations from November 1 - 30. Bring your gently used professional attire to any of the following drop-off locations:

Donations collected throughout November will be distributed to non-profits and organizations whose mission is to help individuals gain employment through job readiness and workforce assistance.

8. City of Durham Holiday Parade & Fun Fest! Coming December 8, 2018 - Join the City of Durham for the annual Holiday Parade featuring floats, local high school bands, and more! The event, scheduled at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 8th, is free and open to the public. The parade and special features like sledding will take place in Downtown Durham rain or shine!

9. ”Here Comes the Bus” Bus Tracking App - Durham Public Schools is the first district in North Carolina to offer parents to option to track their child's bus in real time!
All you need is an account with our "Here Comes the Bus" application online, and you can track the bus using your computer, smart phone or tablet. Using the latest in GPS technology, this app lets you see where the bus is and confirms when the bus has arrived at the bus stop and at the school.
Plus, users can sign up to receive a text message or email when the bus is within a certain radius of the bus stop. No more rushing to get out of the house in time just to see the bus already pulling away!

11. Get Involved! It’s your County. Durham County Government has approximately 43 active advisory boards referred to as Boards and Commissions. Citizens of Durham County may volunteer to participate by applying for a vacancy.
