1. Individual Meetings to Discuss the Appraisal Process - There are still four (4) dates left to meet with tax staff to discuss the appraisal process. 2. Durham County, State Officials Announce the Expansion of AveXis, Inc., in RTP - Durham County Government played a pivotal role in an official announcement at the North Carolina Biotechnology Center on Monday, February 18, 2019, where gene therapy company AveXis, Inc., and the North Carolina Department of Commerce announced a doubling of the expansion of AveXis’ manufacturing center in Durham County. The $60-million expansion will bring an additional 200 jobs that offer a spectrum of employment opportunities that exceed the County’s average pay. AveXis, which develops treatments for rare and life-threatening neurological diseases, previously announced it would expand in May 2018 and create 200 jobs with a $55-million investment at its facility located inside Research Triangle Park.
3. My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) Durham Mini Grant Program Accepting Applications - The MBK Durham Mini Grant Program awards grants to local groups to provide support for youth focused grassroots initiatives to impact community change and is intended to provide support and engagement for boys and young men of color in Durham County. The goal is to support mentorship, creative discussion and activities by nonprofits and other community driven initiatives who will use their efforts toward helping our boys and young men of color many other milestones.

4. 2019-2020 Durham Pre-Kindergarten Programs Now Enrolling - Your 4-year old child may be eligible to attend Durham County’s NCPre-K Program, Durham PreK and/or Durham Public Schools’ Pre-Kindergarten.

5. Safe Haven for Online Sales - The Durham County Sheriff’s Office can provide you with a safe and secure location to complete online sales. Available during business hours or Monday - Friday 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. and Saturday - Sunday 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.

6. LIEAP - Low Income Energy Assistance Program: LIEAP will be open to ALL Durham County residents, January 2 - March 31, 2019. Applications will be taken at the Department of Social Services in the Crisis Lobby #27 Monday - Friday at 414 East Main Street from 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Call 919-560-8000 to schedule your LIEAP appointment. Walk-ins are welcome. The LIEAP Program assists with heating only. Bring a photo ID, Social Security card, income verification and verification of heating source-heating bill to your appointment.
7. Save The Date: Women’s Health Awareness 2019 - A Women’s Wellness Conference with FREE health screenings, education sessions, healthy living sessions and health resources will be held on Saturday, April 6th from 8:00am - 5:00pm at the Mary Townes Science Building located at 1900 Concord St (NCCU Campus).

8. Boys of Color Conference - My Brother’s Keeper Durham and North Carolina Central University Male Achievement Center (M.A.C) will kick-off their inaugural conference on April 13, 2019 from 8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. at the Miller Morgan Auditorium located at 1801 Fayetteville St (NCCU Campus).
This year’s theme is Be the Change: The Re-Dedication to Black Male Achievement. This event is free and is aimed for males ages 14 and up. 9. We’re 150 Years Old, Y’all! As we celebrate the 150th anniversary of Durham throughout 2019, we’re honoring the changemakers who shaped Durham’s unique sense of place, and we’re rightfully touting Durham’s position in the future. Home to scholars, artists, and entrepreneurs, we’re accustomed to movement, creativity, and blazing new trails. SAVE THE DATE, April 13, 2019 - Durham 150 opening celebration. 10. Durham’s First Youth National Track and Field Championship - The Durham Sports Commission will host the 2019 USA Track & Field Youth Outdoor National Championships on June 25-30, one of four national championships USATF holds each year for youth amateur athletes, and the first national championship for youth track and field hosted in Durham. Registration for the championship is now live for both athletes and spectators. Athletes can register by going to www.athletic.net <http://www.athletic.net> and spectators can purchase an all-championship pass on the Eventbrite event page. All day championship passes are $55 and single day tickets are $10.

11. Alert Durham - Sign Up Today: Durham County wants to keep its citizens informed and safe in the case of an emergency. 12. Get Involved! It’s your County. Durham County Government has approximately 43 active advisory boards referred to as Boards and Commissions. Citizens of Durham County may volunteer to participate by applying for a vacancy.
Interested citizens should fill out an application and send it to the Clerk to the Board’s Office.
