The Board is requested to approve Budget Ordinance Amendment No. 19BCC000041 to recognize the donation of $50,000.00 to the Durham MBK program awarded by Aetna. The funds have already been received and this Ordinance will allow for the increase in revenue and expenditure in the MBK fund center.

In an effort to strengthen the network of services and support for young men of color in Durham, Aetna has made a $50,000 investment contribution to My Brother's Keeper (MBK) Durham. The presentation was made on November 9th by National VP for State & Local Government/Education Landis Rush to County Manager Wendell M. Davis.

The investment comes at a critically important time for MBK Durham, as officials have been working on an intensive community needs assessment, evaluating the effectiveness of current programming to better understand what programs are working and what programs may need additional support. MBK Durham is identifying and leveraging existing partners who are "on-the-ground" providing knowledge and expertise in various fields.

Program Manager for My Brother's Keeper Durham Edmund P. Lewis, Jr. speaking about the investment, said that "young black men face a unique challenge that oftentimes prevents many of them from discovering their truest potential." Lewis went on to say that "to ensure we equal the playing field in all aspects of success, we must listen to our youth while continuing to break down these barriers and strengthening their network of opportunities.
