The Board is requested to approve the transfer of the $50,000 currently being held in non-departmental funds to the My Brother's Keeper (MBK) fund center. In the last days of BoCC budget meetings for the approval of the FY2018-19 budget it was the consensus of the board to hold these funds in non-departmental funds until a time when the MBK manager could present a more detailed narrative and fuller scope of work for the Mini Grant Program. The Mini-Grant program will have three targeted areas for funding: 1. Youth involvement/youth development, 2. Community Action, 3. Collaboration. The goal of this program is to create projects that create involvement opportunity for young men of color and therefore must take place after the hours of school or on the weekends and must align with the goals of the MBK Program. This program will be managed in the same method that is used for funding county supported non-profits.

Alignment with Strategic Plan: This item aligns with both Goal 1 and Goal 2 of the strategic plan. The Mini Grant support is providing and supporting learning and enrichment opportunities that support educational achievement and life success; as well as improving the quality of life across the lifespan through protecting the health of community, reducing barriers to access services and ensuring a network of integrated health and human services available to people in need.
