Dwane Brinson was hired by the Board of County Commissioners in May 2019, as the new Tax Administrator. He began his first day of work on July 1, 2019. Brinson succeeds the County’s former Tax Administrator Kimberly Simpson who retired in December 2018.
Brinson joins Durham County Government bringing more than 18 years of progressive leadership, management and technical experience in tax operations. Brinson previously served as the tax administrator for Orange County Government (NC) since 2012. In this role, he provided assessments for a $25 billion-dollar tax base and led the implementation of an enhanced user-friendly tool created to educate taxpayers about property tax relief programs. Before his Orange County tenure, he was the former tax administrator for Lee County from 2007 until 2012. Brinson also worked as a commercial real estate appraiser in Pitt County and as a residential real estate appraiser in Onslow County.
Brinson earned his bachelor's degree from Mount Olive College, a Master of Business Administration in Finance from Campbell University and a Master of Public Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
