1.                     Celebrating Recovery: September is National Recovery Month - Individuals and agencies work to raise awareness and understanding of mental and substance use disorders and celebrate those that recover. Recovery Community of Durham host Durham Celebrates Recovery on September 14, 2019 from 2:00pm - 6:00pm at Durham Central Park located at 501 Foster Street.

2.                     Durham Reads Together: One Month, One Book, One Community - Join the Conversation as Durham Reads Together strives to strengthen the community through a biennial celebration of reading.  During the month of September - October, the book selection is The Best of Enemies by Osha Gray Davidson with the first discussion being held on September 17th from 6:30pm - 8:30pm at the Stanford L. Warren Branch Library.

3.                     Durham County Office of the Sheriff Hosts NC Bike Safe - The Durham County Sheriff’s Office has partnered with BikeSafe-NC and invites motorcyclists to participate in Rider Skills Days.  To see this year’s schedule and register, please visit www.durhamsheriff.com/services <http://www.durhamsheriff.com/services>

 

4.                     Open Enrollment Extended for Medicaid Beneficiaries - The Department of Health and Human Services announced that it will extend open enrollment for Medicaid beneficiaries and move to a statewide transition to managed care on February 1, 2020.

5.                     Child Support Amnesty - If you have an active order for arrest for child support in Durham County, there is help for you.  Meet a representative on September 25, 2019 between 9:00am - 4:00pm at 510 S. Dillard Street (Courtroom 5B) and bring $500 per case.  If the bond is lower than $500 bring that amount and your order of arrest will be recalled.

6.                     2019 Triangle Kickoff to College & Career Event - In collaboration with Art of Cool Fest 2019, this event is “All Things Education” in NC.  Families are invited to attend and take crucial steps in preparing for life after high school.  The kickoff includes a College & Scholarship Fair, Career & Military Showcase and Education Resource Expo.

7.                     Durham 150 Closing Ceremony: Tickets are on Sale! - The ceremony will take place on November 2, 2019 from 7:30pm - 10:30pm at the Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC).  This event will explore the history of Durham narration, video, live performance and music.  Tickets range from $15 - $30 and are available at www.dpacnc.com <http://www.dpacnc.com> or at the DPAC ticket office.
