The Board is requested to approve the recommendation from the Durham County Library Board of Trustees to proceed with naming opportunities in Durham County Library’s renovated Main Library.

 

In accordance with the Durham County Public Library Facilities Naming Policy approved by the Board of County Commissioners on May 9, 2005, Durham Library Foundation requests the approval to name the following areas in Durham County Library’s renovated Main Library:

 

First Floor/Ground Level:

Teen Gaming Area, Room 1025 - Kiwanis Club of Tobaccoland

Maker Space, Room 1049 - Sue and Bob Otterbourg

Forum, Room 1051 - GlaxoSmithKline

Study Room, Room 1053 - Johnson Lexus

 

Second Floor/Street Entrance:

Durham Library Foundation would honor the naming of the above areas with appropriate plaques in designated locations.

 

Durham Library Foundation submitted the appropriate Durham County Library Public Facility Naming application, for the individuals named above, to the Durham County Library Development Officer. The Library Director oversaw the verification of information contained in the applications. All information was verified as correct. After the completion of the verification process, the Director forwarded the applications to the Chair of the Board of Trustees at the July 16, 2020 meeting, the Board of Trustees voted and approved the naming of designated Main Library areas as outlined in the application.

 

Alignment with Strategic Plan: Naming opportunities with Durham County Library are aligned with Goal 1 of the Durham County Government Strategic Plan: Community Empowerment and Enrichment. Providing naming opportunities at the newly renovated Main Library provides constituents and stakeholders a lasting imprint that signifies engagement with the wellbeing of Durham residents.

 

Naming opportunities with Durham County Library are aligned with Goal 5 of the Durham County Government Strategic Plan: Accountable, Efficient and Visionary Government.  Providing naming opportunities at the newly renovated Main Library provides constituents and stakeholders an avenue to enhance Durham County Library’s financial stability and stewardship.

County Manager’s RecommendationThe County Manager recommends that the Board approve the recommendation from the Durham County Library Board of Trustees to proceed with naming opportunities in Durham County Library’s renovated Main Library.
