The Board is requested to approve Budget Ordinance Amendment No.21BCC000016 recognizing $100,000 of Dominion Energy Grant funds for My Brother’s Keeper. MBK Durham received a major boost in July thanks to a $100,000 investment from The Dominion Energy Foundation. At Dominion, with the national uprising surrounding social justice and equality, they identified MBK Durham as an organization working to improve social justice and equality in the lives of black boys and men.
With the funds we are creating a partnership with Triangle Literacy Center, Durham Works and the Durham Tech Foundation to create a Bull City Ready to Work Initiative. Durham Tech is offering several courses to assist students with high demand employment opportunities for immediate employment. Courses are being offered in the career fields that require less than a year of classroom time to help students get back to work quickly in fields like Biotechnology, Information Technology, Health and Wellness, Skilled Trades and more.
