The Board is requested to proclaim 2024 as the Year of the Aerial Insectivore in Durham County.
The mission of the New Hope Audubon Society is to promote the conservation and enjoyment of birds, other wildlife, and ecosystems, focusing on Chatham, Durham, Orange, and parts of surrounding counties. This proclamation would recognize the need in the Durham County to conserve bird species that specialize in eating flying insects, thereby benefiting the economy and citizens of the City of Durham, by designating 2024 as the “Year of the Aerial Insectivore” and encouraging practices that protect the population of aerial insectivores.
